UbiSim, a Labster company

14 August 2024 at 12:30

UbiSim is the first immersive virtual reality (VR) training platform built specifically for nurses. It is a complete simulation lab that provides nursing trainees with virtual access to a variety of clinical situations and diverse patients in a broad continuum of realistic care settings, helping institutions to overcome limited access to hospitals and other clinical sites for nursing students.

This cool tool allows institutions to create repeatable, real-life scenarios that provide engaging, standardized multi-learner experiences using VR headsets. It combines intuitive interactions, flexible modules, and immediate feedback. These contribute to developing clinical judgment, critical thinking, team interaction, clear communication, and patient engagement skills that enhance safe clinical practice and are essential to improving Next Generation NCLEX test scores.

UbiSim reduces the burden of purchasing and maintaining expensive simulation lab equipment, allowing nursing programs to scale and standardize their simulation activities. Faculty choose from 50-plus existing training scenarios created in collaboration with nursing educators and simulation experts. Educators may also customize content or create original scenarios to fit learning objectives.

Founded in 2016, UbiSim has been a Labster company since 2021. The UbiSim customer roster has grown by 117% since Fall 2022, extending its footprint at universities, community colleges, technical colleges, and medical centers within 9 countries, including 21 American states. UbiSim now partners with 100-plus nursing institutions in North America and Europe to advance the shared mission of addressing the nursing shortage by reducing the cost, time, and logistical challenges of traditional simulation methods and scaling high-quality nursing education. For these reasons and more, UbiSim, a Labster company, is a Cool Tool Award Winner for โ€œBest Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality (AR/VR) Solutionโ€ as part of The EdTech Awards 2024 from EdTech Digest. Higher Education Technology Leadership: Rebecca Leis, Ph.D.

25 June 2024 at 13:30

Rebecca Leis, Ph.D. is a Full Sail University Program Director overseeing the Computer Science Bachelor of Science โ€“ Mobile Development Concentration, Computer Science Master of Science, and User Experience Bachelor of Science degree programs. In her role, she continues to work to build new hands-on educational opportunities for current and future students.

Leis brings with her into the role knowledge from earning a masterโ€™s and a Ph. D in Modeling and Simulation. Her research focused on an acute understanding of the human mind through technology. For example, while earning her masterโ€™s degree, one of her research studies explored how people could use technology to become safer, more efficient workers in high-risk jobs at oil rigs or nuclear power plants.

Recently, Leis, Ph.D. has done the following:

Aided in the launch and deployment of three new Full Sail emerging technologies degree programs โ€“ Computer Science Master of Science, User Experience Bachelor of Science, as well as the Computer Science Bachelor of Science Mobile and Artificial Intelligence (AI) concentrations.

Played an instrumental role in the grand opening of the โ€œFull Sail University Fitness Technology Lab Powered by Echelon Fit.โ€ This on-campus lab environment allows students across the emerging technologies-focused degree programs to participate in innovative research initiatives centered on enhancing existing Echelon equipment and features, as well as the development and implementation of new features for different Echelon product lines.

Continued to manage a team of over 50 educators while regularly evaluating the effectiveness of the programs she oversees. For these reasons and more, Rebecca Leis, Ph.D. is The EdTech Leadership Awards 2024 Winner for โ€œBestย Higher Education Leaderโ€ as part of The EdTech Awards from EdTech Digest. Learn more.ย

Multiphysics Simulation to Improve Design of Renewable Energy Production

Simulation plays a critical role in developing new technologies โ€” and technologies that power our world using renewable sources are no exception. The challenge is scaling the amount of energy generated from renewable resources quickly in order to reduce reliance on nonrenewable resources such as oil and natural gas.

Engineers address this challenge by using advanced computational simulations to determine design feasibility. Simulation experiments allow engineers to test new ideas rapidly and encourage creative problem-solving.

Many renewable engineering sources contain multiple physics (e.g., mechanical, thermal, fluid flow, and phase changes) operating concurrently, making multiphysics simulation an excellent tool for simulating the different aspects of renewable energy production.

A live demonstration of heat transfer simulation including phase changes using the COMSOL Multiphysicsยฎ software will show you how:

  • Multiphysics simulation captures the physical behavior of heat transfer better than single-physics simulations
  • Engineers can conduct experiments that would otherwise be cost-prohibitive
  • Engineers can improve their understanding of the production of energy using renewable sources
  • Companies can reduce the time and cost required to develop new methods of producing renewable energy
