Fast Travel Games Reveals Action Flick-inspired Shooter ‘Action Hero’ for Quest

15 August 2024 at 18:29

During the VR Games Showcase today, Fast Travel Games unveiled its next VR game: Action Hero, promising to be a truly “blockbuster VR FPS.”

Here’s how the studio describes its:

Punch dinosaurs in the face, battle ninjas with shotguns and chase bad guys on a speeding train in Action Hero, a blockbuster VR FPS with explosive set pieces and cinematic design.

Fight your way through five bombastic movies, stepping into the hero’s shoes. Gameplay proceeds in slow motion, only speeding up as the player moves. Lean around bullets with stylish satisfaction, catch weapons in mid-air and take down enormous bosses.

Action Hero is set to launch on Quest 2/3/Pro this year.

As a VR veteran in the space, Fast Travel Games is known for a host of titles including Mannequin, Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice, Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife, The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets, and Apex Construct.

Upcoming Arena Shooter ‘Frenzies’ Brings ‘Fracked’ Gunplay & Multiplayer Madness to Quest & PSVR 2

11 July 2024 at 17:15

Creating a great arena shooter is hard, as many VR developers can attest. Gaining critical mass is important to keeping the casual ‘jump-in, jump-out’ style gameplay quick and fresh, and mechanics need to be engaging if it’s going to be a VR-native. Now nDreams-owned studio Near Light announced they’re aiming to do just that with FRENZIES.

Developed by Near Light and published by nDreams, Frenzies fuses the studio’s gunplay from Fracked and Synapse, throwing players into five-round matches which promise to be a “chaotic lucky dip of iconic and unconventional.”

This includes solo and team-based round types, such as ‘Red Light, Green Light’ and something called ‘Glitter Pig’.

“The last thing you can accuse FRENZIES of is being boring,” says Near Light studio head Paul Mottram. “Taking inspiration from classics like Quake and Unreal Tournament, we wanted to inject some unpredictable excitement back into the genre while retaining what makes VR shooters so special. We think FRENZIES nails that sweet spot.”

It’s coming to Quest and PSVR 2 at some point, however the studio says Quest players will have the chance to step into the FRENZIES arena later this month when the game heads into a closed alpha period.

We’re hoping to learn more closer to launch of the closed alpa, so check back soon.

Mixed Reality Arena Shooter ‘Spatial Ops’ Launches Out of Beta in Late 2024

26 June 2024 at 11:47

Resolution Games today confirmed that Spatial Ops, the studio’s multiplayer mixed reality shooter currently in beta, is heading for full launch on Quest sometime later this year.

Spatial Ops lets you turn any physical space big enough for mixed reality play into a virtual battlefield, replete with barriers and a host of weapons, such as Tommy guns, revolvers, shotguns, scoped rifles, rocket launchers, grenades, and a riot shield—making it feel more than a bit like a game of laser tag on steroids.

Featuring 1-8 players, Spatial Ops offers a number of modes, including a solo PvE bot mode, and PvP modes like Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Domination, and Free-For-All.

While it might seem like the game is designed with VR arcades in mind, thanks to a handy level editor basically anyone can pick up Spatial Ops and tailor it to their living room, basement, or well-lit outdoor space for some pretty impressive battles. Check out our early hands-on here to learn more.

Resolution Games says the launch version of Spatial Ops will focus on reduced gametime setup, pre-set and movable maps, performance optimization, more gameplay, more enemies, and more modes.

Spatial Ops is already available to wishlist on Quest 2/3/Pro via the Horizon Store (ex-Quest Store). If you’re interested in playing the open beta, you can play it via SideQuest up until its full launch.
