OnePlus is taking $100 off its Pad 2 tablet with a free pair of Buds 3 earbuds

OnePlus typically offered competitive specs and features in its devices at aggressive prices, but that’s softened a bit in recent years. The fairly recent OnePlus Pad 2 has some nice qualities, like a 3000 x 2120 resolution / 144Hz display that looks great, but its $550 price, plus add-ons, isn’t exactly cheap. Right now, though, there’s a sweet deal that helps.

You can get the OnePlus Pad 2 for $449.99 ($100 off) directly from OnePlus when you use the checkout code SEP50, and it’s accompanied by a free pair of OnePlus Buds 3 wireless noise-canceling earbuds ($99.99 value). As a whole, the package deal saves $200 on the total value of about $650.

The OnePlus Pad 2 comes with a fairly spacious 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM for a...

The lone US manufacturer of boutique keycaps may have just been saved

Signature Plastics, the Custer, Washington-based company known for specialized mechanical keyboard keycaps, has announced it’s being acquired by a Portland-based investment group that intends to keep the company operating with all employees maintained. This comes after majority owner Bob Guenser announced his plans to retire and find new ownership back in January.

Signature Plastics is well-regarded in the mechanical keyboard community for its high-quality PBT keycaps in vintage-looking SA and DSA profiles, such as DSA creamsicle and SA nuclear data, often selling runs of keycap sets in limited group buys with long lead times that can make them quite exclusive. It’s the only high-end, boutique keycap maker based in the US.

Amazon’s next Prime Day sale is happening on October 8th and 9th

It’s official: Amazon’s second Prime Day event of the year will take place at the beginning of October. The two-day shopping event — which Amazon is calling Prime Big Deal Days for the second year in a row — will begin at 12:01AM PT / 3:01AM ET on Tuesday, October 8th, and run through Wednesday, October 9th, the company announced on Tuesday.

Like last year, Amazon is running the 48-hour promo in an attempt to jump-start the holiday shopping season, giving Amazon Prime members another chance outside of Prime Day proper to save on everything from home goods to everyday essentials. Although we typically see the lowest sale prices during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Amazon’s fall sale often provides solid deals on a range of tech,...

The best deals on MacBooks right now

Some of the latest M3 MacBooks are on sale, and you can find great discounts on older models, too. | Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge

Apple currently sells MacBooks equipped with its own M-series chips in a wide range of sizes and price points. It recently discontinued the M1 MacBook Air to make room for the M3 Air, but some retailers are still selling the last-gen laptop starting at $649 — a far cry from the $2,499 starting price of the latest 16-inch MacBook Pro. Purchasing a new MacBook can certainly be a pricey endeavor, but thankfully, finding a deal on a current M3-based model is actually not that difficult.

Although Macs may not experience perpetual discounts, it’s not uncommon to see various models discounted by as much as $400. Alternatively, purchasing refurbished options directly from Apple is another way to save money without waiting for the changing deal...

Refurbished first-gen AirPods Max headphones are $250 off for today only

Apple’s revised AirPods Max with USB-C are just a few days away from their launch on September 20th, but if you don’t mind a Lightning port the older (nearly identical) model can be had right now for much less. That’s because Best Buy seems to be clearing stock of refurbished first-gen AirPods Max, discounting them in a variety of colors for $299.99 ($250 off), which is as cheap as the flagship Apple headphones get — but the one-day deal ends late tonight at 1AM ET / 10PM PT.

The AirPods Max may be nearly four years old, but they’re still a great pair of noise-canceling headphones if you’re deep in Apple’s ecosystem and appreciate some exceptional (although, heavy) build quality. They offer excellent, balanced sound and support for some...

Samsung’s massive OLED monitor is on sale with a free 24-inch display thrown in

A running gag here at The Verge and on The Vergecast is that ever since Samsung switched to a six-day workweek for its executives, it’s made some particularly wild decisions — like throwing out its own unique earbud design for glorified Apple knockoffs with light strips. And right now, Samsung will not only sell you its impressive 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC) 49-inch curved ultrawide gaming monitor for $1,099.99 (a discount of $700), but it’s also including a second, 24-inch Odyssey G30D monitor for free (a $150 value).

The deal price is being matched at Best Buy and Amazon but without the freebie second monitor. And why wouldn’t you want a second baby monitor to compliment your wraparound surfboard of a main monitor?

The 49-inch...

How all the new iPhone 16 models compare to one another on paper

Apple’s new iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max are already up for preorder ahead of their debut on September 20th. It’ll be a few more weeks before the Apple Intelligence AI features arrive, though, as Apple is serving them up in beta as part of iOS 18.1 in October. But without those hyped-up software features in tow just yet, what’s there to be excited about on day one? Well, to make sense of all four models, we’ve put together a little side-by-side comparison outlining some of the key differences between them (if you’re so inclined to make an iPhone 16 your own).

Apple Intelligence will (eventually) be available for all four of the new phones, and each comes equipped with Apple’s latest processors and the new Camera Control...

Here’s what you need to know about preordering the new iPhone 16

The dust is still settling from Apple’s latest iPhone event, which introduced us to the Apple Watch Series 10, a new set of AirPods, and a suite of smartphones that are due to arrive later this month. And while we’ve only had some initial hands-on time with the new iPhone 16 models, preorders are now open.

Apple’s latest phones — specifically the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max — are set to arrive on September 20th. They introduce new processors and a slick new Camera Control button, but none of them look to be a drastic overhaul of last year’s iPhone 15 series. That being said, perhaps things will get interesting when Apple Intelligence comes to the new models with the release of iOS 18.1 beta in October.

We’re currently...

Valve celebrates Steam’s birthday with a $112 discount on the 512GB Steam Deck LCD

Various games on a Steam Deck screen
Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge

The Steam Summer Sale, like summer itself, is sadly well behind us, but Valve is beating one of its best deals on its own gaming handheld. That’s because in addition to the Steam Deck LCD with 64GB of storage once again selling for $296.65 (around $52 off), the 512GB version, complete with its fancier antiglare etched screen, is selling for a new low of $336.75 (about $112 off). These are some exceptional deals on the two Steam Deck models that are being phased out.

Whichever Steam Deck you choose, you’re getting an excellent PC gaming handheld with a seven-inch, 1280 x 800 display that’s compatible with many games on Steam. It may be a couple of years old and not as nice as the refreshed Steam Deck OLED model, but it’s hard to beat...

What’s the real difference between the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro anyway?

After various rumors and leaks, the PlayStation 5 Pro is finally official — complete with a new GPU, $700 price point, and no built-in disc drive. But is that pretty much it? What makes this new console 40 percent more expensive than the existing PS5 you can buy today for $500? The same one that’s bound to go on sale during the holidays, not long after the Pro’s November 7th launch date.

What are the differences between the PS5 and PS5 Pro that make it (depending who you ask) a worthwhile upgrade or a superfluous expense?

Spec and performance differences

The PS5 Pro has three core performance improvements over the standard PS5, according to Sony’s technical presentation announcement, hosted by PS5 lead architect, Mark Cerny. It’s got a...
